And here we go with another week!! I'm thinking I'll keep these going at least until the end of the year, and then we can decide if we have finally caught up! :)

As before, you have your choice of the "traditional" dirty dozen challenge (12 things the first day, then 10, then 8, then 6, etc) or the baker's dozen of two things a day, and one on the 7th day, to make 13 things total for the week.

All your chores should be small things that you can easily accomplish in one day.

Good luck, and let the decluttering begin!!

Oh Maui, I feel the same way. I've been doing my count, just changing the task. I can't seem to settle on what's on the list and I get distracted and hyper focus on a major job. That's what burns me out in the first place. Frustrating.

1) empty small bookshef
2) empty big bookshelf
3) buy murphys oil soap
4) buy 6 tumblers from dollar store
5) hunt for champagne flutes at thrift store
6) hit Acme for $1 a bag produce
7) feed my family dinner
8) wash and dry church outfit

Personally Polly - I feel so energized by making these lists, changing as need be AND seeing more results than I have in a long time. It's not a pressure to get everything done - for me, it's a process.

Congrats to all of us for whatever we get done!!

That's what I want Maui!!!! I wish I could get there. I know that's what MadHen had in mind when she created this challenge. Can't help but feel I've failed this challenge once again.

Polly,

First, this particular challenge is NOT designed to help you tackle huge projects. If you are trying to accomplish a bunch of major things every day, you will just stress out and not get anything done.

That said, there should be no way to fail the challenge, unless you sit on the couch and do nothing all day (and even then, I could probably find a way to help you succeed at the challenge).

If you find you are listing major jobs that are too difficult to accomplish, then break them down into several steps, and make that your challenge instead of the one major job and then eleven other things. For example, my walk-in closet is a mess. It would take me ALL day to clean it out. So I have been adding "find a new home for 10 things in the walk-in closet" to my challenge. I may just put 10 things away, but the closet is now that much less cluttered. I figure, even if I just move 10 things a week, if I don't keep dumping stuff in there, the closet will eventually be clean.

You could, for example, break out "feed my family dinner" into several smaller steps, as I am sure it has multiple elements to it.

If you think you are failing the challenge, I recommend re-thinking what you are listing. Maybe you shouldn't list your major chores on the challenge. Maybe try just listing some really easy stuff, especially on the days when you have more than 6 things to do. You may feel silly listing them, they are so easy. That is okay. List them anyway. When you can cross them off, you will feel just as good as crossing off your major task.

I've flung 15 things so far, found a home for 3 of the things on the counter, and the rice is in the cooker, but isn't done yet. :)

Thanks MadHen, that's what I've been trying to do and it just snowballs. I tell myself I'll just do A and then I think well since I've done A I should do B and then C happens and then D and next thing I know I've got a huge mountain of linens that I've pulled off the linen shelf and have washed, they need to be folded and put away but I've got to scrub down the linen shelf with murphy's oil soap (on today's list) before I can do that. *sigh* I won't tell you about my other piles. *shuffling feet* My husband said to me once that he's never seen anyone work so hard and get so little accomplished! I understand the challenge, just having a hard time sticking to the plan.

I'm going to clean up my mess and then try again MadHen. Thanks for the pep talk.

Update:
hubby's taking the car in Monday for #1, shop was booked up all weekend. That means I have to put off #2 until Tuesday.

Just got back from grocery store & Zellers, no Indiana Jones outfit though, but I'm all stocked up on Lego.

Couldn't find a neti-pot, will look in the stores I go to next, not going to make an extra trip.

Going to put the groceries away and head downstairs, supper is ready to go on the grill, so I don't have to worry about stopping to cook.

Oh, Polly, we are so much alike, you and me. :)

How about you try to do it like Mauimagic does, and basically don't make an advanced list, but just try to accomplish the right number every day, and give yourself credit for everything you do? So rather than not getting to Item B on the list, because Item A turned into Items A-1, A-2, A-3, and A-4, just list items A-1 through A-4 as four things accomplished?

The rec room is done, but I now have mountains of things piled up by the stairs  It looks worse now than when I started, but only because things are on their way out. I can see the finish line - just won't quite be crossing it tonight.

Listed a couple pieces of furniture out of the furnace room on freecycle, not having much luck there these days, but hopefully someone will respond. The furnace room is almost done.

I haven't carried the stuff out to the garage, but there is so many piles going in all different directions, I just pick one up everytime I go past.

Tomorrow's task is just to continue with today's. I know I will be completely done the basement by the end of the weekend.

Perfect!!

I got the best idea of things to list when I saw someone's list with:
"fill salt shaker" on it!! There you go, the perfect example!!:teddy2:
