A friend texted me today to see if I wanted brussel sprouts. I said "yep" We were going for a walk around a christmas light display...also free...so we could chat at a distance. She handed me a veggie bag, in the dark. Turns out it had a half dozen brussel sprouts, some carrots and a few radishes. THe stuff was prepped but she hadn't used it and didn't want to. I brought it home, sliced things and fried them in some coconut oil (what I had) and added a jar of duck meat I'd canned. With another bit of water, a lovely stew for dinner!

we had another "dump" at the food shelf, someone brought in a bunch of used and unused cleaning supplies, probably cleaning out a house. I got a Shout! spray, cleaning spray, heavy duty toilet bowl cleaner (hope it works on my hard water stains). Also a box of wine. Obviously we can't pass out alcohol.

That toilet cleaner DID work great on my hard water stains - brand is Scrubbing Bubbles.

Got some cooking magazines and books at the recycling center.

Also got 2 more packages of TP (6 rolls each) and a Hallmark birthday card, free with virtual coupons.

Thahks, Jo. I will look for Scrubbing Bubbles. I wonder if that's still made. We have very hard water here. They don't call this the Iron Range for nothin'.

Two boxes of premium brand cereal today. It was on sale and I used my CVS extra bucks, and the receipt printed more EB. So I went back and got a 2nd box. The cashier was like "Let's see if you get a 3rd one..." but no, not this time. Love it when a sale and a coupon collide.

Got another big box of food from 2nd harvest. I sorted out some of it to pass along. It is probably enough veggies to get me thru the month. Some canned fruit too. I am passing along most of the pasta and beans because I have plenty. It is bad weather today and not as many people were coming to the distribution center. The ladies sent extra boxes with us to drop off with some of their regular customers. I am glad the are flexible. We are also having super high infection rates so anything we can do to keep people from gathering, like drop the food at their house, is a good idea.

Today a free jar of soup base, and another pack of cream cheese. Good thing it lasts for years unopened.

Some raspberry scones that they were throwing out at the food shelf. Individually wrapped, not stale. Had one for breakfast. Also jar of homemade raspberry jam, someone donated 2 cases and we can't give out food that is not commercially prepared.

I guess my slippers from Amazon? Wanted to return them, too small, but they did a "returnless refund" so I get to keep them for free. I'm going to wait til after this holiday rush is over to order something else.

I found a cute knit cap on the ground while walking the dog. Hung it on a branch in case owner might look for it. Several days later after rain and freezing temps it was still on the branch, frozen stiff. So I brought it home and washed, it is mine now. I have several favorite cold-weather items I got the same way - gloves, hat, scarf.
Sent hubby with a coupon for free poinsettia when he was buying the Christmas tree. It turned out to be a huge florist-grade one.

Nice, Dlr. I have not seen poinsettias around this year, usually all the stores have them. But then, I have not been out as much.

Free can of Libby peaches today. Really liking this new program where I can use my gas points for groceries. I think we've put gas in DH's car once since he started working from home this spring, and I have only filled up a couple times.

a friend just dropped by today, she called ahead because she knows me..., She brought a final christmas present! Some tiny hand crafted decorations for my tiny house. So cute! A cardinal made from an acorn and a pinecone. And a glass bulb shaped jar she found at a thrift store. She made a little snow scene in it with rock salt and some odds and ends. Little trees and a tiny mouse probably from a tea box back in the day.

She was talking about needing a toilet seat so she could make a bit of an emergency outhouse at the far end of her giant garden...turns out I had an extra "luggable loo" seat that didn't fit my own emergency bathroom at the far end of the property so she left with a free brand-new-unused toilet seat and was also happy. Later she emailed about how her son is wierd because he likes brand new things....I told her that maybe, just MAYBE she and I were the strange ones but we are also more fun.
