So today I was in Target and had a few Nivea coupons I printed out from the Target website for bodywash, it was already on sale for $2.43 so it came out free because the coupon was for $3.00 I went to the first cashier and she completely freaked out and said she didn't know how to scan them and to go wait in another line. As I waited in the other line the store manager approached me and told me I was only allowed to get one bottle. I told her I would use cash for one transaction and my credit card for the next ( Mind you I wasn't paying anything at all for it). She gave me an attitude and I noticed all the cashiers were extremely rude and rolled their eyes as my total came out to $0.00. Everything was legit. Not to mention the security guard followed me around the store the second time I came in. I was not doing anything illegal I just took advantage of the coupons that were on the actually Target website, but it really bothered me on how they treated me. I felt like they viewed me as a theif. What do you suggest I do next time, find another Target? I just want to know if any of you savers have experienced this?

Before you go next time print out Targets coupon policy off of their website and take it with you. Also I do believe if the coupon makes the item free to the point there's an overage they are supposed to give you the cash in hand or on a gift card. Same with Walmart, Winn Dixie or Publix.

One thing I've done if they give me a bunch of grief I'm not in the mood for is ... especially if the manager is involved...ask him/her for corporates phone number. Also ask for the cashiers name and the managers name. Note the time of day and date. If you have a cell phone call directly at the store in front of the manager and/or cashier. Really should go to the manager on the cashier first.

Take the coupon policy which you can get from their website with you. Highlight the part about free and overage. Also highlight the part about there being a limit on amount being bought. Whatever that might be.

As far as the security guard following you around...other than it being a pain in the ass they have the right to do that...however if your cell phone has a camera .. turn around a few times and take his picture...have a smile on your face though, not a nasty look. That should sufficiently blow his mind.

Or, do what I do.....when I notice them following me, I give them a wild goose chase....I go to every department in the store...not once but two or three times.....head to the checkouts and then turn around and go to another department....then, I make a big production when I get to the checkout....I open my purse in front of the cashier...empty it "looking for something." I make sure I look in my pockets of my jeans in front of cashier.....patting them and saying to myself...."nope not in there".......take off my coat and lay on counter and look in pockets......give them one coupon at a time.....slowly....very slowly....look at register to be sure it is deducted......count out the money....slowly.....very slowly......don't they have anything better to do then follow me?????

be careful snapping pictures as former loss prevention for a big box store they can ask you to leave and depending on the store have you trespassed by police as well. Once trespassed if you are anywhere on there property sometimes for any store in the country you can be arrested. Having their picture taken like that can post a security risk as people have posted them on line before and loss prevention as been approached, threatened and some have had there vehicles vandalized while at work.

Never had a problem with coupons.

I was followed and approached once. I was looking for a quiet private place to sit and nurse the baby. I chose a seat hidden in the back of the shoe department. They approached and asked what I had under the blanket. I said my baby. They said I would need to show them. So I did. They blushed and said I had found a nice private spot to nurse. Take my time.

I am sure it did look suspicious though. They were only doing their job.

That gave me a laugh, Imagine! Good for you. I have never been followed, but have noticed increasing scrutiny over coupon usage. Two different Shaws, two different weeks, I've gotten the 3rd degree. One week the cashier declared 'none' would scan as she couldn't get the first printable to scan. Mind you, I had both printables and coupons straight from the paper in my pile but she decided that none would work. Luckily she put them through anyway, after a slow and painful inspection of each and every one. The next week I had both a cashier and a bag boy who appeared to be about 20 trying to inform me that Shaw's will only double 4 coupons, period (the policy is actually 4 LIKE coupons, not 4 total). It worked out, after I insisted they try to put through the coupons they insisted wouldn't double. Didn't you know it, they did. But what a hassle to get there. They always get annoyed with me as I insist on handing them 3 or 4 at a time so none get stuck together and missed. I used to have that happen a lot before I began parceling them out that way if they're the printables. I understand why a stack of coupons can be annoying for them, but it's their job to deal with it and it's not their business if I like to keep my grocery bill down by reasonable means.

More and more it feels like couponers, and not even 'extreme' ones, are under suspicion for trying to save a buck. It sounds like Target employees need to be better at familiarizing themselves with the company coupons offered on the very website of their employer! I would definitely put in a call to corporate about that kind of treatment, especially the original cashier who turned you away because you had coupons and they didn't know how to handle them. They should have taken you and called someone over to show them how it's done.

As for what I do when cashiers are clearly annoyed that I use coupons- I stay calm and pleasant, even when they're clearly in the wrong. Catch more flies with honey, after all. Let them have their huff; I've enough to stress over in a day instead of getting upset that they're upset they have to do their job. I only buy/print coupons from known, legit sites, so I never worry that my coupons are fraudulent.

I'm not sure if I've ever been followed around a store but I'm glad there are security guards present to prevent theft. I rarely use coupons but have never had trouble with cashiers or managers. Sometimes I'll get a grumpy clerk but I try to overlook it. I'm sure I'm not Miss Sunshine every day either :)

Subject printable/ internet coupons

Walmart is the only grocery store in my area that takes them. The other grocery stores have a policy against printables
Also no grocery stores double coupons.

I have had my good days and bad days with coupons. Walgreens can even be a bad day. I have issues with the coupons that print off the pdf websites. They never want to scan. I try to go to my favorite cashiers when this happens. They just manually put them in for me. Target is almost always good about coupons and deals. Surprises me that they wouldn't be. Just hang in there I think they were just having a bad day.

I love Kroger coupons. I just used a buy $130. and get $13. off,a $1. off deli and $3. off meat dept. $17. not too shabby. Kroger coupons are targeted towards the person because they track how much you spent on what. I have gotten some awfully good catalinas from Meijer by Dept. so it includes fresh veg and fruit.
My fav. coupons used to be the transfer a prescription $25/$39 New York. That was just a credit on your Kroger card so you could use it on anything.

I do agree that the newspaper type coupons are usually processed foods w/ the exception of new products like when Egglands best eggs came in.

I have never had anyone be ugly with me. Most of the time they are cheering me on when I do really good.

I once had the security man follow me (and MyLovelyMan) around inside a sports-goods store, in France. I think he must have been bored, since we were behaving, we think, like everyone else browsing in there.

However, I took the bull by the horns and approached the guard and told him I knew he was following us, and he was welcome to do it, especially if he was bored. He was astonished - I think, at the fact that I spoke to him in French, whereas he'd been following two "foreigners" who were speaking a "secret" language, of which he was suspicious!

And then he backed off. Found someone else to follow. We bought what we'd gone in to buy, then left.

Jeanna - I like, and need, this quotation in my life. Thank you for sharing it.

Courage doesn't always roar. Sometimes courage is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying, "I'll try again tomorrow. --Mary Anne Radmacher
