have several dance recital costumes that are a few years old and dd has outgrown .
next girl down in the family is only 2 so no real hand me down ability right now ( my dd is 13 but small for her age )

tryng to decide if i shopuld yardsale them for "dress up" items or if there is an other option ?

was thinking maybe ebay for people who might use them for pageants but not really sure they are glitzy enough for pageants .

plus not sure if i really want to deal with ebay unless i am 99% sure its at least 10$ in my pocket after fees and with ebay now- a-days theres little guarentee

We used ours for Halloween Costumes. Here in PA you need to wear clothing under them because it is cold on Halloween. So you want them big anyway.

That is a problem I wrestle with, too. I have my girls' dance recital costumes hanging in the closet-some have been there for 5 years! They all take up space I don't have.

I would really have a hard time parting with them, though. I'll probably procrastinate on this one long enough that when they grow up and move out on their own they can take them with them!

- we are in NJ it can depend year to year if they need a parks or nothing under her costumes.

i think i may just sell them for 3-5$ and see what happens .
they often rewear the costumes from spring recital for a winter recital too they try to keep that in mind- IE for an italian themed dance at spring they wore a glittery red dress black net stockings etc so they can re-use the red one for winter recital.

she is in the dance junior ensemble group for past year so is in 3 or more dances each recital ..so i expect the # of costumes i have sitting about to just increase

can you sell them to other dance recital moms? Would the instructor let you put up a flyer in their studio to sell them ?

My 3 year old would love to dress up with them so I am sure others would too. What about listing them on Craigslist instead of messing with ebay fees?

well i am having a yardsale tomorrow was thinking of doing it then .

i dont think selling it at the dance class would work - the girls all have to have the same costume as their class for recitals so unless they wanted it for costume play at home use etc.

We tried selling Ems costumes at a garage sale last year, she has been dancing since she was 3, competing for 6 years so we had ALOT of costumes. We didnt do that great at the yardsale, we had them priced @ $5 I think. We sold a couple that the girls said they were going to use as Halloween costumes and a couple to a mom who was making a dress up box. This year I put some on ebay with starting bid of 9.99 & sold most between $10-$15. I put them on a couple weeks ago hoping they would go for halloween costumes but also there are people out there looking for solo costumes for their girls (one of the costumes I sold was bought to be a costume for an ice skater).
I keep the costumes until they don't fit anymore just in case her instructor wants to reuse them because we have had issues in the past with costumes not coming in in time for competition & we have to reuse a previous one, after that I just want them out of the closet, lol.

My dd does dance competitions, and recitals. I have 8 years worth. Sometimes I give them away for Halloween costumes. I reuse all the rhinestones off of them. I've never tried selling them before.

I took off rhinestones, etc from costumes that were beyond being able to be used or were ugly from age and air.

The "special" outfits that I salvaged to pass on to the girls when they may want them in the future, were put into clear plastic containers and are up in the top of closets.

There was just NO room to keep them hanging in the closets.
