What is a "normal" diet? Consumers and food industry pundits have it all backwards

I was describing the raw foods diet to someone the other day, and they remarked, "Well I'm not sure I want to do that. I don't want to do something so extreme," and I said, "What do you mean extreme? You think the raw foods diet is extreme?" Then it hit me: Most people think that the processed food diet -- loaded with chemicals, additives, preservatives, artificial plastic fats and milled grains that are depleted of nutrients -- is normal.
In this article, we're going to explore what's normal versus extreme when it comes to food. And on that topic, I have a very different opinion than the masses. My opinion is that "normal" means what the human body was designed to consume. What's normal is food from nature. What is completely abnormal, radical or extreme is food that is made in a factory; food that is processed and so completely unnatural that if you throw it outside the animals won't even eat it.

Our modern diet of convenience foods and fast-food resturants is what killing us in the long run. Add to that, a sedentary lifestyle. Sadly, most people think it's "normal" to live that way. If someone was to eat differently from the average American, they look at you as if you're a hippie or a health fanatic. Eating at least a partial raw diet or cooking from scratch, considering if lots of veggies & fruits are being eaten is the way to eat for optimal health. Some people think I'm weird because I choose to eat and live healthy and I don't care.
Thanks for the article.

Oh I have people who think this way about me too, but they are really the one's that are missing out on quality of life. I can't worry about what other's think. They are the ones who eventually call on me to help them when they are not feeling so well. It's really sad!

I am eating about 50 to 60% raw for the summer months. I will go back to around 80% during the fall and winter months. I am pretty lucky that dh is going right along with me. It has made a definite difference in our overall wellbeing:)
Thank you so much for this article. Hubby and I have been discussing eating more salads as our dinner and less meats. We will always be meat eaters, but we do want to cut down on the consumption and include tons more veggies and fruits into our family meals.
