I did my 1st real grocery shop of 2023. I have been diligently eating up my beans and dried hominy corn stash. (I think my colleagues are regretting my bean-choices....), and my home canned meat. Groceries were for fresh greans, some onions to use in soup so I can eat up more of the meat and beans! There was a sale on "rx bars" which are like a nutrition/protein bar, pretty spendy, but 8 bars for 4 $ and nothing I'm allergic to. I got a couple to keep in the car or take on trips to help avoid convenience food purchases. Potatoes and carrots were cheap and good in soup so got those too. A friend just came by with eggs...she's still charging 4$ a dozen which is a good price these days especially for farm eggs. Trying to eat up my sardines stash...salad and sardines for lunch. Also working my way through the berries I put in vinegar last summer fall. Makes a great salad topping with a bit of olive oil. Also threw some in the last of a bisquick type mix that I needed to use up and pretended I was having blueberry muffins. Weren't great, but good enough.

I need to do a pantry use-it-up challenge in March. I am fully stocked and picked up some coconut oil today which should be plenty for the next month or two. I have a boat load of garlic, dried homny corn, chicken broth and meat (home canned), and beans and lentils that need to be eaten. Maybe get a few eggs and greens each week but otherwise I am beyond fully stocked. I want to get through a lot of it before farmers market season starts in may/june.

I'm jumping in a bit late but due to overstock issues....I need to work through my pantry now!
I am currently working on eating up chicken stock (like the broth, not a bunch of chicken meat), coconut flour, and much much more.
In clearing some space in my office pantry cupboard, I found some salmon in a jar and some smoked salmon I'd missed! NICE!!

I'm trying new recipes as I go. I have chicken stock, wild rice, dried mushrooms (dried by a relative who died several years ago so clearly time to eat those up!), and a head of garlic ready to go for some soup to make up and eat this weekend.

working through the lentils and some other things! Made "lentil chili" (but it's a bit thick so...lentilchilihummus??) last night while talking to my mom. Used the last (I think) aging can of tomato paste and used up a couple of aging spice-dregs so I can get fresh next time I'm in town. More of my dried jalapenos, and quite a bit of onion powder. Also a head of garlic. It's not bad! I have some of that super heavy swedish rye "health bread" to spread it on if it keeps getting thicker.

Just one banana left in the work freezer and I'm getting enough eggs now I don't have to stretch them into "banana pancakes" for a while so not restocking.
Using up my blueberries on salads along with chia seeds every lunch this week. Boring, but delicious.

RS: that dinner sounds really good!

RS: totally depends on how hot the peppers are and how much heat you like! start small. i like super spicy things so i throw in a crushed handful, seeds and all. some people think the seeds are the main 'heat source' and leave those out.
i. am doing some soup today with 5 peppers and will probably add more if it is bland. i have dried mushrooms in there too and they seem to take the heat down a bit.

to make the soup i used up garlic powder, dried soup mix from the food coop, and another jar of home brewed chicken stock. if i get around to making spaetzles to go with it, i will use up the last of my flour.

Working through my lentils. Added cracked wheat (originally bought when I couldn't get chicken feed....it is from the grocery store) but now I have feed and they don't need it. Put in what MIGHT be the last jar of home canned chicken stock, dried mushrooms, and some hot peppers and onion powder. Used up a jar of home harvested thyme, and some of my lovage (celery relative) leaves that I dried from my garden. The whole mess got a bit thick so I renamed it from soup to "casserole". Not bad. Looks horrible because the stock is so dark it all turned uniform brown...so basically looks like a bowl of poo....oops!

finished off my walnuts. I'm all out of nuts! On my last bag of coffee beans. I started on my dried posole and beans that are my "souvenirs" from a New Mexico trip in Feb this year. I've only bought a bit of fresh veg and fruit so far this month, the rest is all pantry supply. once I get a bit more winter stock stuff used up I can restock with spring/summer in mind.
