Anybody have a dog who gets yeast infections?(in their ears or on their skin?) Our black lab mix had a yeast infection in her ears last fall and seems to have a yeast patch on her lower tummy. The vet said last fall that it might be due to allergies, but we haven't pursued any testing. Any over the counter things to use for these things? The vets charge so much for the products.... thanks for any advice!:)

My sil has a lab mix that gets yeast in her ears. I think they use the vet prescribed meds on her though. I'll see what I can find out.

My lab has chronic ear infections, but no yeast yet!

It just cost me $97.00 at the vet for our Bassett Hound. He has a yeast infection in his ears and some kind of skin irritation.

If someone can come with something to use in their ears to prevent these infections, please let me know!

If he wasn't so cute, I'd send him to live somewhere else!

Wish I could remember an ear wash I heard about. I think it had vinegar and rubbing alcohol in it, but i would think the alcohol would sting , especially if there was already an irritaion present. Someone also suggested vasoline, as it makes it difficult for the yeast to stick. I don't think I'll try these yet, unless I hear of someone who has successfully tried them. Anybody else ever heard of these remedies?

Try Tea tree oil. It is great in curing yeast infections in people. And a friend of mine used it for some kind of a skin condition for her dog,her vet told her to use it.. I wouldn't use it straight, cause it is too strong to use right from the bottle. mix it with babyoil or olive oil then put in ears and on skin. Here's a recipe i have for treating ear aches in people this might work for your dog.

EARACHES: Mix one Tb. warm (not hot!) olive oil with a few drops of Tea Tree; tilt head to side and drop a small amount (4 drops) into the ear. Place cotton ball in ear to prevent leakage, repeat every 6 hours until condition clears
