My doctor has recommended that I try yoga to help with my lower back pain. I am 48:sigh: and I honestly have never really tried to exercise like I should have and am therefore very stiff. My library only has 1 yoga dvd that you can rent for 2 days. I'd rather just buy a dvd from Amazon or something but I want a good/easy to understand one. Any suggestions on a good beginners yoga dvd...

Thanks in advance.

I would check out a variety of dvds on yoga first. Most libraries have an inter -library loan so you might find one elsewhere and have it shipped to your library. Baltimore libraries have their catalog online so I can check see what is where.

You can also try Netflix or Blockbuster to see what they have. No sense in buying something that you won't like. :)

You may also find shows on TV that might interest you PBS has several yoga shows, and there is a belly dance show called Shimmy that may help with back pain.

i go to a studio and take classes and absolutely LOVE IT!!!! fabulous! you just feel so good after a class!

i dont have any recommendations for you, but, i would look on the websites for Lulumon and Gaiam (not sure of spelling of that one) these are 2 highly reputable yoga clothing, mats, etc and i am sure they will have DVD's to pick from.

also, may i recommend that you look into the different styles of yoga.

and, since starting yoga back in september, i no longer ever have any back pain, i sleep much better and just feel overall just better and good!

I took a yoga class at a community college and really liked it - I don't have a DVD to recommend but I can tell you that I still do some poses today (Took the class almost 20 years ago). It was Hatha Yoga - emphasize was on breathing and stretching. Another alternative would be to check out some books on yoga and get an idea of what the gist is.

I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. It really does make a difference. At least in a class you have an option of asking questions on poses you don't understand or are too difficult to perform. However, I can understand wanting to have a DVD so you can do the postures at home.

my biggest fear was doing a pose wrong and not getting anything out of it or doing it wrong and hurting myself! so, i go to the studio and get poses corrected and just love it! that way, i am sure not to pull something.....again, this is my personal opinion.....

but definitely check out a studio for the $15/week pass and see what you gain from it...

If you have a computer, there has to be countless yoga videos on the web. If you have netflix, there are a lot of DVDs, as well as a large streaming collection.

Specific suggestions? I don't have any, as I don't like yoga.
