I haven't been in the garden much for several days- the weather has been cold, rainy, dreary- just not fun to go outside, and I don't feel like bundling DD up as she won't enjoy it at all. But I DID need to go to my compost pile today to dump food scraps.

Wow!!! I must be doing something right!!! DH put the lawn clippings on the pile the other day after he mowed. The pile is quite large now, and I had planned on not "containing" it this year, but Iam going to have to. Anyway, I wanted to dump the food scraps, but I don't like to leave them sitting on the top of the pile, so I picked up a little handful of the grass clippings and they were HOT. Yay!!! My little compost bugs are working!!!!!! I couldn't believe just how hot it truly was. I've never noticed his in my compost before, though Iknow this is how it is supposed to work. I finally put the 4:1 ratio into effect nd it seems to be working. Hooray!!!!!!!

The road crews recently mowed the ditches on our road and left nice heaps of cut grass in the ditches. LOL I look at those heaps and drool -- I want it for my compost pile! I'm seriously thinking of going up and down the road with my cart and raking it all up and taking it home!

I would grab that grass!

Dh uses a push-mower with a small bag, and he dumps the grass right onto my pile when it needs emptying. Ijust ned to load it up with browns now. I have two huge bags of shredded paper to go in, so I should b all set! Also, a co-worker has 10 huge bags of mulched dried leaves sitting in her yard- I might go get one or two if I get a chance.
